Finance for New Arrivals in Australia

Car Loans & Finance Solutions for Migrants Starting Fresh

Just Arrived in Australia?

We Help New Arrivals Understand Their Finance Options.

Starting a new life in Australia comes with a lot to organise — accommodation, employment, transport, bank accounts, and understanding how the Australian finance system works.

For many new arrivals, getting approved for finance can feel confusing and frustrating, especially when you have:

  • Limited Australian credit history
  • A temporary visa
  • Recently started employment
  • No local borrowing history
  • Been declined by a dealership or bank

At Royston Finance, we are dedicated in helping new arrivals, skilled migrants, visa holders, and expats access finance solutions across Australia.

Whether you arrived last week or within the past few years, our team understands the migration journey because we have been through it ourselves.

Helpful Resources for New Arrivals

We Protect Your Credit Score

Many migrants unknowingly damage their credit file by applying with the wrong lenders or multiple dealerships.

Most people do not realise that applying with the wrong lender can lead to:

  • unnecessary declines
  • multiple credit enquiries
  • damage to your credit file

At Royston Finance, we do things differently.

Our approach:

  • No “shotgun” applications
  • We only approach lenders suited to your visa type
  • We carefully select the right lender first
  • No unnecessary credit enquiries
  • No applying “just to see what happens”

We only submit applications when we believe there is a realistic chance of approval.

Been declined by a bank?

Just arrived and unsure what is possible?

We deal with these situations every day.

Just because one lender says no does not mean approval is impossible.

Different lenders assess:

  • Visa subclass
  • Employment history
  • Time in Australia
  • Income structure
  • Credit profile

Knowing where and how to apply can make a significant difference.

Why Many New Arrivals Get Declined

One of the biggest mistakes new arrivals make is applying with lenders or dealerships that don’t understand visa holders.

Many banks and lenders have strict rules around:

  • Temporary visas
  • Time in Australia
  • Employment probation periods
  • Overseas income
  • Australian credit history

Unfortunately, multiple failed applications can damage your Australian credit file.

That’s why we assess your situation first and help identify lenders that may suit your visa type and circumstances before any formal application is submitted.

You can also read our blog on:

“The Hidden Risk for Visa Holders Applying for Finance”

This article explains how incorrect applications can affect your borrowing power in Australia and why choosing the right lender matters.

Depending on your situation, lenders may ask for:

  • Passport
  • Visa grant notice
  • Employment contract
  • Payslips
  • Bank statements
  • Australian address details

Don’t worry if you’re still getting organised, we can guide you through the process step-by-step.

Before You Apply — Quick Eligibility Guide

You may qualify if you:

✔ Are permanently employed in Australia or starting soon
✔ Can provide payslips or an employment contract
✔ Have at least 13 months remaining on your visa

✔ Hold a valid visa - Check visa list
✔ Casual employment for 3+ months may be considered
✔ Are looking to purchase within the next 30 days

If you are unsure whether you qualify, we recommend speaking with us before applying.

Eligibility checks available with no impact to your credit score.

Applications are typically reviewed within 24 hours.

Avoid Common Pitfalls

Most brokers and dealerships have little experience with new arrivals and send applications to the wrong lenders everyday, often without completing the correct checks which will often result in a decline or further information being require and can damage credit scores and new credit files.

At Royston Finance we know exactly what is needed upfront and which lenders will accept your application whilst matching you to the most competitive payment available without the guess work. We will work with you to find the best deal as being rate driven is not always the best approach.

Some lenders charge monthly account keeping fees and dazzle customers with lower rates when in fact it costs the customer more overall.

Communication You Can Rely On

We understand waiting for finance approval can feel stressful.

That is why we commit to:

  • Fast response times
  • Regular updates throughout the process
  • One dedicated point of contact
  • Clear and honest communication

If Things Don’t Go to Plan

  • Complaints – If you are not happy, we have a simple complaints process (explained here). We aim to resolve issues within 5 business days.

  • Hardship – If your circumstances change (job loss, illness, etc.), let us know right away. Many lenders offer payment pauses or temporary arrangements, and we’ll guide you through it.
